What is Pilates?

Pilates is a form of exercise developed by Joseph Pilates in the 1920's. Modern Pilates combines traditional Pilates movements with stability techniques used in Physiotherapy.

Aims of Pilates

Pilates aims to rebalance the body improving posture, strength, balance and flexibility. Modern Pilates targets both mind and body with smooth flowing movements co-ordinated with efficient breathing. The progressive, functional exercises are ideal for everyone from those recovering from injury to athletes wishing to enhance performance.

Pilates has proved very successful for resolving pain and discomfort associated with pregnancy.

Pilates classes

JMH Therapy offers one to one, small group and larger group classes. The exercises are mat based with the use of small equipment such as the fitness ball and resistance bands. Specialist classes are offered for the older adult and pre and post natal women.
